Décontam Inc.

Décontam

Company

This fixed facility for the biotreatment of contaminated soils operates in the Montreal region since 2005.

As the treatment is undertaken inside a building, Décontam offers, year round, a quick, simple and efficient solution when one needs to ecologically dispose of contaminated soils.

The technology used applies to soils contaminated by petroleum , diesel and light hydrocarbons. The platforms inside the building allow for the treatment of 60,000 metric tons of contaminated soils. The duration of the treatment varies based on the types and concentrations of the contaminants as well as the gradation of the soils. As for the efficiency of the process, treatment allows soils to attain a level of A-B or less allowing for its reuse in residential settings.

Located in the South West Borough of the city of Montreal, close to the Turcot exchange next to the Lachine canal, the facility is easily accessible thus minimizing transportation costs.

Commercial activities

Décontam offers complementary services for the management of contaminated soils, thereby providing a global solution to customers’ needs.

  • Excavation of soils to be treated;
  • Transportation of soils to the facility;
  • Storage and biotreatment;
  • Disposal and valorization of soils in accordance with their decontamination level;
  • Rehabilitation of sites.

The price varies depending on the degree of contamination, soil type, treatment time and the volume to be treated. In addition to the treatment, the price includes storage, environmental follow-up and subsequent disposal of soils.

Décontam takes full responsability for the soils upon their arrival at the treatment facility.

Important investments were required to obtain exclusive usage of the bioaugmentation treatment process and to adapt the installations of a previous plant to the conditions required to undertake the biotreatment of contaminated soils. These investments come entirely from the private sector.

Achievements

In the market of contaminated soils and site rehabilitation projects, Décontam intervenes as a service firm to the developers, general contractors, consulting engineering firms and municipalities.

The tens of thousand metric tons of contaminated soils that have been decontaminated during the past years came from different projects, public as well as private;

  • Residential developments;
  • Installation of electrical canalization or sewage and aqueduct services;
  • Dismantling of underground tanks from former service stations or petroleum installations;
  • Decontamination of parks and public areas.

Markets

The fixed facility serves mainly the great metropolitan area of Montreal, with the majority of the users coming from administrative regions of Laurentian, Laval, Montérégie and Montréal.
