Our first GHG emissions inventory now enables us to have a clear picture and track our performance throughout the upcoming years. Over ten concrete measures have already been implemented. This certification is a very welcome recognition of our proactive stance and the initiatives we’ve taken, and encourages us to further evolve in this matter. We are very proud to have been able to meet all requirements. Indeed, this underscores our rigorous process and Bishop’s University’s will to help fight climate change.”

It attests that a given organization has carried out an inventory of its GHG emissions, in compliance with the ISO 14064-1 standard and provided tangible proof of the initiatives it implemented to reduce them.

As an example, here are a few initiatives undertaken by Bishop’s University:

  • Elaboration of a sustainable development plan and policy with regard to GHG emissions;
  • Creation of a Sustainable Development Committee;
  • Installation of a geothermal system for heating and air conditioning;
  • Implementation of organic waste collection and composting on campus;
  • Universal student access to public transportation;
  • Use of an electric vehicle by the campus maintenance personnel for transportation purposes.

“This certification underscores Bishop’s University’s efforts in proactively managing its GHG emissions, said Ms. Laporte. This can only further encourage other academic institutions across Québec and the rest of Canada to follow its positive example.”
