This year, the event was held at the Andr\u00e9-Grasset College in Montreal and welcomed more than 200 students from nineteen different colleges and C\u00c9GEP.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=&#8221;1276&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; qode_css_animation=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=&#8221;&#8221; row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; use_row_as_full_screen_section=&#8221;no&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; angled_section=&#8221;no&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; background_image_as_pattern=&#8221;without_pattern&#8221;][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Proactive in the environmental field, the College possesses its own environmental management policy, is certified \u00ab C\u00e9gep Vert \u2013 Niveau excellence \u00bb and created in 2004 the Committee for environmental action and consultation. On a day-to-day basis, one of the College\u2019s priorities is to offer the best possible work field to its students by the implementation of its environmental action plan which includes an environmental fund, sensitization activities, installation of multi-bins, use of 100\u00a0% recycled office paper and the creation of the\u00a0<i>\u00e9co-lab<\/i>, a new platform for the emergence of environmental ideas and activities. In continuity with its environmental vision, the Andr\u00e9-Grasset College decided to make this 2014 edition of the festival, the first certified as Carbon Care<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Carbon-Neutral.<\/p>\n<p><b>Greenhouse Gas Inventory of the Event<\/b><\/p>\n<p>With the collaboration of Enviro-access, the College proceeded to the quantification of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions produced during the event. The GHG inventory[1]\u00a0was elaborated by including those emission sources:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"first-child\">Electricity consumption in buildings<\/li>\n<li>Consumption of fossil fuels in buildings<\/li>\n<li>Consumption of fossil fuels in motorised vehicle used by participants<\/li>\n<li class=\"last-child\">Consumed fossil fuel production<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With before and after the event gathered data, GHG emissions were quantified and represent\u00a0<b>6.3\u00a0tons of CO<sub>2<\/sub>eq<\/b>. Here is an overview of emissions by categories:[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=&#8221;2449&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; qode_css_animation=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;2447&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; qode_css_animation=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=&#8221;&#8221; row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; use_row_as_full_screen_section=&#8221;no&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; angled_section=&#8221;no&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; background_image_as_pattern=&#8221;without_pattern&#8221;][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]<b>Certified Carbon Care<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Carbon-neutral<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Enviro-access\u2019 Carbon Care<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Carbon-neutral certification recognizes organizer\u2019s efforts to responsibly manage and reduce the GHG emissions of a given event. Through this certification, Enviro-access confirms that the event organizer is sensitive to the issue of climate change and proactive in its emissions management. With the elaboration of the festival\u2019s GHG emissions inventory, the College covered the first step to get the certification. To demonstrate its commitment to hold a Carbon Care<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Carbon-neutral event, the College decided to undergo several actions helping in the prevention and the reduction of GHG emissions. Here are those initiatives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"first-child\">Encouraging every participant to carpool or use public transit (buses) rather than individual car to get to the College;<\/li>\n<li>All participants were lodged on site;<\/li>\n<li>Accompanying adults not lodged on site were given a free pass for the\u00a0<i>Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de Transport de Montr\u00e9al<\/i>\u00a0services;<\/li>\n<li>Local food was favored in all meals;<\/li>\n<li>Reusable dishes were used in priority, and recyclable and compostable dishes were also used when necessary in order to reduce waste sent to landfills;<\/li>\n<li class=\"last-child\">Distribution of a reusable water bottle to each participant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, the College has compensated the 6.3 tons of CO2eq generated during the event by the purchase of certified Gold Standard carbon credits with CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0Environnement. More than only certifying this event Carbon Care<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Carbon-neutral, this action helps bring a better environment for everyone.<\/p>\n<h2>Congratulations to the Andr\u00e9-Grasset College for this excellent initiative!<\/h2>\n<div>\n<hr align=\"left\" size=\"1\" width=\"33%\" \/>\n<p>[1] This GHG inventory of the Festival intercoll\u00e9gial de th\u00e9\u00e2tre 2014 was prepared according to the International Standard ISO 14064-1:2006. The scope of this inventory includes all installations used for the event. The methodology was consolidated according to a control approach.
