Description des projets en cours

1. Transformation of plastic waste into manufacturable products

Person(s) in charge : Kamal, Musa R.
Description : The project concerns the development of medium temperature treatment of various plastic waste from domestic or industrial origin. A classical reactor is used and work is done on operating conditions. Breakdown of polymers into monomers would ease their reuse in manufacturing processes. Melting at medium temperature (300-400°C) allows selective recovery of polymers in a liquid or solid form. These products can be used as synthetic lubricants.

Another project deals with blending of polymers, including plastic waste.
Partners : Martinex
Status of research : bench scale
Availability of results : free
Concerned organizations : plastic and petrochemical industry

2. Hydrolysis of polyesters

Person(s) in charge : Kamal, Musa R. and David G. Cooper
Description : The project concerns the development of a reactor able to break down polyester molecules into monomers. No catalyst is needed.

Concerned organizations : plastic and petrochemical industry

3. Development of laminar polymer blends

Person(s) in charge : Musa R. Kamal
Description : The project employs special processing conditions, in conjunction with a patented die design, to obtain laminar polymer blends with excellent barrier properties. Both single screw and twin screw extruders were used successfully for this purpose.
