Current research projects

1. Backfilling technologies

Person(s) in charge : Hassani, Ferry
Description : The project concerns the development of a technology that allows backfilling of mining cavities with mines residus. This solves waste management problems as well as stabilizing soil structure. Dewatering mine sludge and mixing additives are studied in order to transform the sludge into a paste. This paste should be able to move inside a pipeline from factory to the mining cavities.
Partners : Mining industry
Status of research : bench scale
Availability of results : free
Concerned organizations : mining industries

2. Fly ash stabilization

Person(s) in charge : Hassani, Ferry
Description : The project concerns the development of a fly ash stabilization technology. Fly ash comes from coaling electricity factories. They are to be stabilized and then burried in old mines cavities.
Partners : City of Bath (U.K.)
Status of research : faisability study
Availability of results : free
Concerned organizations : burner owners, mining industries

3. Subsurface examination

Person(s) in charge : Hassani, Ferry
Description : The project concerns the development of an application program for radar images interpretation in order to make them easily understandable. Radar detection is used in this project to detect burried hazardous wastes.
Partners :
Status of research : development
Availability of results : purpose of commercialization
Concerned organizations :

4. Acid mine drainage prevention

Person(s) in charge : Hassani, Ferry
Description : The project concerns prevention of acid mine drainage. Certain elements inside the mines residus are chemically activted. They form congglomerats that stop leaching.
Partners :
Status of research : bench scale
Availability of results : patented
Concerned organizations : mining industries
