This certification confirms that the organization is sensitive to the problem of climate change and proactive in its GHG emissions management.
In collaboration with our experts and the Climat Municipalité Program of the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment and the Fight against Climate Change, the municipality of Saint-Mathias-sur-Richelieu completed its first GHG inventory and GHG emissions reduction action plan. This action plan proposes many significant initiatives like the establishment of a policy for the drinking water management, the installation of water-saving equipment in municipal buildings, the replacement of the municipal garage et the fire station heat systems, the formalization of carpool parking and the implantation of a new organic waste collection system.
“The municipality demonstrates its green commitment by implementing direct actions to reduce city controlled direct GHG emissions by 10.5% and global GHG emission by 0.2% (in comparison with 2012). We are proud of what we have achieved so far, and it is with great enthusiasm that we accept this recognition by Enviro-access”, explained Mrs. Jocelyne G. Deswarte, mayor of the municipality.
